FAQ

The most frequent question Baldguy gets concerns methods of shaving and sites that offer information or suggestions.

Since I have been shaving my head since 1976,   and have tried various methods,   I will share with you my observations.

I first used electric barber clippers to remove my hair, and then shaved the remaining stubble with a Gillette double bladed razor.   The results were a very smooth head!

Fearing that my head may suffer from cuts, scrapes, razor burn, and my skin would dry up from the daily wetting, shaving cream and scraping, I tried Norelco, Remington and Braun electric razors.

Obtaining as smooth a shave with an electric required at least triple the time and effort, and I went back to Gillette.   I also have tried various Schick razors, but again, returned to Gillette.

I have not tried depilatory lotions and don't like the lightness  of disposable razors.

RECOMMENDED:

Use a heavy metal razor like the Gillette Sensor, Atra or whatever the newest configuration of that razor is. Try our sponsors QuikShave double blade!

Shave every day in the shower.   Use shaving cream to make a smoother shave and prolong the life of the blades.   I often shave twice a day.

After shaving, apply either a thin coating of Vaseline or use the Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion.   From what I have read and experienced, nothing works better.

Use a sun screen.   Your scalp is just more skin, but if it has not been exposed to the sun, it will burn quickly.   I've included a photo to show that it tans naturally.

CAUTION!  Like your shoulders, the top of your head receives maximum sun when you are walking or standing.  I received a nasty pigment destroying burn walking the beaches in ARUBA this way.

Great tips on head shaving.  That's pretty much how I do mine also.  A gal I know got me started using one of those "Buf-Pufs" things on my head and face and it really helps to get the stubble standing up.  It's real rough and I guess takes off old skin, etc.   I can really get a close shave afterwards using one of those.  I also have never had much success using electrics on either my head or my face but recently have started using a Norelco an
hour or so after shaving with the Schick/Gillette and shave creme. It really helps keep my head smoother longer.   Being bald is great!  I have no plans on ever returning to hair( I always wore a crewcut flat top anyway so it wasn't a real big change!)
